We use shared channels with our customers to have a close relation to them. This allows users to ask questions, share feedback and share use cases directly in Teams and get a fast response. We also use the channels to share product updates. This guide describes how to set up a shared Teams channel.
There are different ways to connect different teams through Microsoft Teams. We use B2B direct connect as it is the most user-friendly way and the most secure way as it utilizes Entra and exchanging tenant IDs.
Navigate to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center.
Click `Global (Org-wide default)
Ensure that Join external shared channels
is activated. If you changed your settings, click Apply
You will need an admin with Microsoft Security permissions to set up the following steps. We will follow the steps detailed in this guide.
The guide from Microsoft goes through these steps:
Add an organization.
Configure inbound settings for the organization to allow users from the organization to be invited to your shared channels.
Configure outbound settings for the organization to allow your users to be invited to the other organization’s shared channels.
Go to Users
and then to External access
Ensure that Teams and Skype for Business users in external organizations
is either set to Allow all external domains
or to Allow only specific external domains
.
If you only want to allow a list of specific domains, click Create a list of external domains that are allowed. Only the external organizations specified are trusted. All other domains will be blocked.
Click Add external domains
Enter langdock.com
and click Add
. Then click Done
to close the sidebar.
Click Save
In a new tab, navigate to the Microsoft Entra Admin Center
In the sidebar on the left, click External Identities
Select Cross-tenant synchronization
Switch to the Organizational settings
tab. Then, click Add organization
.
Click the Tenant ID or domain name
field and enter langdock.com
.
Select Langdock GmbH and click Add
.
Click Inherited from default
in the Outbound access category for the Langdock organization.
Go to the B2B direct connect
tab.
Click Customize settings
For users and groups, click Allow access
for the access status.
Go to the External applications
tab and select Allow access
for the access status.
Click Select external applications
Click Add Microsoft applications
Check the box for the Office 365 app registration.
Click Select
Click Save
Confirm with Yes
. You have now completed the B2B direct connect setup from your side.
Please reach out to your contact at Langdock and share your tenant ID with them. You can find the tenant ID on the home page of the Microsoft Entra Admin Center.
The Langdock team will invite you and your users to the shared channel. You and your users will receive an invite via email, through which you can join the channel. Please check your spam inbox in case you did not receive an email yet.
