# Can I add tabular data such as Excel or CSV files to a Knowledge base?

Knowledge bases help you work with large amounts of text that exceed what models can process at once. Semantic search identifies relevant sections and only those sections are used to generate the response. See [Knowledge bases](/en/using-langdock/library/knowledge-bases) for details.

Excel and CSV files need a different processing path. Use [Create & work with files](/en/using-langdock/guides/data-analysis) for spreadsheet analysis, or use [Folders](/en/using-langdock/library/folders) for active file work with files.

These features process different formats of data. Knowledge bases extract relevant text sections, while spreadsheet analysis needs the attached file available as a complete table.
